PLEASE HELP US TO HELP OUR TEAM RAISE MONEY IT'S EASY AND FUN,
IT'S GREAT "PR" FOR YOU,

Peter Zezel was one of those guys who just loved kids. He did not have any of his own and perhaps that is why he was like a father, and in some cases like a big teddy bear, to all the kids he worked with over the years. He was kind and generous, and gave freely of his time and expertise. He had a wicked sense of humour which he used constantly with parents and players alike, as well as with his countless number of friends and acquaintances.

Peter played for the Don Mills Flyers from 79 to 82; he was team captain in his last year (Midget) and then went on to the OHL and then to the Philadelphia Flyers. Somewhere in between the OHL and NHL, he had time to act in a feature film called. "Young Blood"

After his long and illustrious career in the NHL, Peter came home to Toronto and started to work with kids of all ages thru his various sports camps. He came back to work with Don Mills Flyers in 2005 as Director of Hockey Development and ran our on ice Skills Development Program for two seasons. During that time he acted as coach mentor, and was a huge help to coaches and players alike, both on and off the ice.

In 2007 Peter got the itch to coach and got involved with the Don Mills Flyer 1996 age group. He worked with the existing staff the first year in order to get a feel for the age group and to see how the league worked. He took the team over the following year as Head Coach. His strong coaching and love of kids attracted a lot of good players and he put together a strong group for the 09-10 season.

Unfortunately, Peter passed away in the spring of 09 and never did get to see the team he built compete in the GTHL, and compete they did. He would have been extremely proud of what the 1996 team accomplished this past season.

The Don Mills Flyers would like to establish a fund in Peter's name that will be used to help kids who cannot afford to play hockey. This fund will ensure and honour his legacy as a guy who cared about kids and as a guy who gave whatever he could to help.

Blues Sign DMF Alumni Anthony Nigro
May 14, 2010
St. Louis Blues President John Davidson announced Friday the club has signed forward Anthony Nigro.

Nigro, 20, has spent the majority of the past two seasons with the Ottawa 67s of the Ontario Hockey League (OHL) after joining the team during the 2008-09 season via trade from the Guelph Storm. In 2009-10, the Woodbridge, Ontario native played in 61 games and led the 67s with 46 assists while netting 16 goals for a total 62 points including 49 penalty minutes.

In the post-season, the 6'0", 187-pound forward made 12 appearances collecting six goals and seven assists for 13 points and 12 penalty minutes, tying for the team lead in points and assists.

In total, the left-shooting left-winger's regular season OHL career with both the Guelph Storm and Ottawa 67s has yielded 251 games and 196 points including 74 goals, 122 assists and 199 penalty minutes. His OHL career post-season numbers include 33 games played, 12 goals and 14 assists for 26 points and 25 penalty minutes.

Nigro was the Blues' sixth round selection (155th overall) in the 2008 NHL Entry Draft.

Sabres Sign DMF Alumni Nick Crawford
May 6, 2010
Buffalo Sabres General Manager Darcy Regier announced today the Sabres have signed defenseman Nick Crawford to a three-year entry level contract. The Sabres selected Crawford in the sixth round (164th overall) of the 2008 Entry Draft.

Crawford (6'1", 183 lbs., shoots left, 2/23/1990) led all Ontario Hockey League defensemen in scoring this season, finishing with career highs in points (70), assists (59) and goals (11) in 68 games with the Barrie Colts and Saginaw Spirit. Crawford was named to the OHL's First All-Star Team, and finished second in voting for the OHL's Defenseman of the Year. In addition, Crawford was selected as the league's Best Offensive Defenseman in the annual OHL Coaches Poll.

"We're pleased to have Nick signed to a three-year contract," said Regier. "He's made tremendous progress since we drafted him two years ago in the sixth round, and we look forward to him having a bright future with the Buffalo Sabres organization."

Among all Canadian Hockey League blueliners, Crawford was fourth in points; second in assists; and his plus-51 trailed only the plus-56 posted by Colby Robak of the WHL's Brandon Wheat Kings.

The 20-year-old Crawford also added 12 assists in 17 playoff games as Barrie advanced to the OHL Championship Series before being eliminated by Windsor.

A native of Brampton, Ont., Crawford registered 140 points (23+117) in 264 career OHL games with Barrie and Saginaw.
